Oh man, next time someone asks what superpower I would like to have, “Admin” will be it.
This was a very weird episode. But I’m looking forward to reading more
Wow, “the Crabs” is a utter moron at trolling:
He will now go to jail for Causing Massive Property Damage, threathening customers, resisting arrest and even just waranting a Police opeartion. Ghost Kiss can propably even force him to pay her cleaners bill.
His next weeks will be terrible for him. Not to mention all the time to pay off the debts, the public unmasking (because he is now in custody) and all that it will cause for the rest of his life.
Worst, troll ever. Even worse then that Guy that failed to troll Dark Wick at the start of his webcomic.
Trolling works on the basis that the target has (seemingly) no course of counter action.
In part through anonymity (the worst you can get is get them banned).
In part because there might be no clearly definieable wrongdoing other then being a total ass.
I always have a counter action if someone breaks to law to my disfavor. That is kinda the whole idea of the law.
With internet trolls I always try to find the argumentational weakspot. They always have one. It is well obfuscated. But once you learn to find that obfuscation, you can find what they tried to hide and break them.
The louder someone tries to point to X, the more likey he wants to distact from Y and Z.
For example, a good reply to that Instagramm guy could have been:
“Maybe I am. But even if I am I still would not touch people like you :)” And of course reporting him – I mean he asked for it, after all.
Not showing any sign of being riled up, while turning the attack on him.
Adim has a great power. Does it work with other things to? What if she left a note on the car of a someone who’s a bad driver? Would he be unable to drive?
The Crabs is just super gross.
I think it’s just limited to the internet. But maybe not. We don’t know how it actually works, so there might be more to it.
So she’s basically the sought after weapon of Anita, Zoe, Brianna, and every feminist ever?
I absolutely hate both of these characters. This goes beyond pro-censorship, this is ruining a man’s life! What isn’t done online anymore? He won’t be able to apply to any jobs that require an online application. Certain things that require an e-mail (which is nearly everything) are also off limits.
If Mya didn’t like this guy, she could simply block him, but instead ruined his life.
Yeah, I’mma read the next one, if only to hopefully see some justice served to Admin and Mya.
If you pull out a gun – even a fake one – on someone, you can not complain if bystanders, the person you aim at or the police tries to kill you to save that life.
You wantd to be seen as a life-or-death threath. Congratulations, you succeeded! I do not know why you wanted to succeed in that, but you did.
Same principle. The result is proportional to the deed.
He wanted to be an ass. Now he can not complain about the consequences of being an ass.
He tried so hard, he wanted something like this to happen. Dared something like this to happen. Now it happened. Congratulations, I guess.
It’s worth mentioning that The Crabs almost certainly didn’t expect to be caught. Or rather, he’s the kind of person who couldn’t really imagine that kind of consequence to his actions.
He’s also the type of person who doesn’t take the possibilities of consequence seriously until it actually does happen to him – and then it’s someone else’s fault!
No, Christopher, this is not proportional, this is escalation. Whoever it was that Admin and Mya worked their magic on can no longer register for classes, apply for most jobs, or search the web for information.
“Pulling out a gun” would be a threat. This guy wasn’t making threats, he was just being a jerk. He hurt Mya’s fragile little feelings, and she, in turn, plotted to bring actual physical harm to him. Instead, she did something worse than a fat lip: she has handicapped him in a way that’ll follow him for the rest of his life.
Dude bro, as a white, straight, adult male, I just want to say that you are reprobate. You’re Victorian values are insensitive and Draconian. You clearly don’t value women as people and your sense of self seems firmly rooted in degrading the opposite sex.
As an asian, gay, adult male, I just want to say that you’re an all too common type of idiot these days that think “sexist!” is valid retort to a completely reasonable question or opinion.
Can Admin restore privileges? It seems a bit excessive it the power is permanent.
No idea. Possibly? It is totally excessive. One of the themes I’m trying to explore with this comic is that superpowers are excessive, invasive and unsettling.
Reminds me Witches hunts. Any witch supposedly owned “excessive, invasive and unsettling” powers, and could ruin life of anyone. Cast dissease on you, your field or livestock… I imagine this is the way of thinking, which allow even the most logical people to start “self defense”. (Not that i am implying superpowers are magic)
Speaking of not knowing the limits of one’s powers, how much dilution is required to nullify Ghost Kiss’ abilities? Does the water treatment plant feed into the Lethe?
Good question. We don’t know yet if Mya’s precautions are paranoia or if her power actually works outside of lip to lip contact.
OMG THAT WAS SO AWESOME!!!!! Ghost Kiss totally went to another level! 🙂
I’m really liking this. It’s a different angle to the whole superhero schtick we’re used to seeing, and it’s nice to see what abilities apply in a modern setting.
P.S. Jake, I think you meant “villain”? I think you might’ve spelt it that way in a few pages back too. Not trying to be pedantic, but I keep reading it in the same way one rhymes with “Jillian”.
Oh god, I don’t know how to spell.
I noticed that Admin typed the email but then did not herself hit send. Is she unable to post things too?
Possibly (and that would be interesting, wouldn’t it?). But in this case she was explicitly waiting for Mya to decide if she wanted to send it.
Typo: In the cop car, “Because messing with people is awsome!”
Awsome=Awesome
Thought you’d want to know. (I know I would.)
Thanks. I appreciate it. I’ll go back and make fixes at some point.
I have so many questions about admins power…
It’s already clear that she doesn’t have to send the message herself so it seems to work as long as she wrote it.
Considering how electronics work it wouldn’t be weird if someone who has access to “Tom’s” email to mass email that message to bunch of other people named Tom who then all can’t post anymore.
What if she doesn’t put a name on it and the message get’s returned to her because she wrote the email address wrong?
Heck what happens if other people named Tom read that Email?
And now my head hurts…
My guess would be that she probably either has powerful psychic powers and doesn’t realize it, so they manifest in this way and under these conditions, allowing her to inexplicably target specific people… or she controls some kind of computer virus (or something similar) that allows for that kind of specific targeting. Whatever the case, her powers seem to work intuitively. Of course, she might just by lying and have no powers at all, or it might be some kind of elaborate NSA thing and not an actual super power.
Her lying actually fits more with GK’s partner that kept trying to get her to calm down and let it go.
This NSA thing seems like it’s there to shove a much needed conscience into people that have powers. Force them to be better by nagging. And when that doesn’t work… lying to them.
Yeah, exactly.
I… dunno if I agree with this resolution. Honestly, with all the information The Admin found, it would’ve been better to have Mya go confront him. It’s possible Tom might be reasonable. And, if not? Well… he’ll have the fear that Ghost Kiss was able to find him to contend with. If she could find him… then, who’s to say other people he’s harassed couldn’t?
Of course, it may also have the opposite effect and he’d make a LiveJournal post about how she’s a super-stalker that wants to jump his body, or something. People are an enigma…
ruining him for life feels a tiny little bit of an overkill for an internet troll.
I think thats the wrong way to look at it. Internet harassment and stalking of this kind is a huge problem. It affects an absurdly large number of women. My sister’s life was completely upended by something like this. She had to move twice and stop having any kind of internet presence. At the time I thought that was a really out there set of circumstances, but since then I’ve discovered its really common. Intense targeted harassments (both sexual and otherwise) is something a huge portion of internet using women suffer from every day, and it often leads directly to in person threats, stalking, harassment and violence. Even when its JUST cmfined to the internet it can force users offline completely. It also can lead to depression and suicide. Its an actual real problem.
I think a lot of people, especially guys, just aren’t aware of this at all. They never experience anything comparable to it and never see the effects of it, so they have no idea its a problem. But it is. This isn’t just “internet trolls” (as if that term hasn’t already been used to excuse absolutely unacceptable behavior anyway).
Is taking away someone’s ability to harasses and degrade others “ruining them for life”? In this case, at worst, its forcing them to live the same life we all did 20 years ago. Within the realm of fictional comic book vigilante justice I think its a pretty fitting punishment for someone who is serially harassing women. I think the real problem is that this kind of behavior has become so normalized that people don’t even see it as something worth objecting to.
